My Award

Life as we may know it is made up of a series of events, and it is from such that we can

define life. Life is a dynamic occurrence which is shaped by the events that we go through in

daily life. Being able to appreciate such events gives a feeling of self-importance as well as

fulfillment. As such, people will classify the events that they go through as either fulfilling or

not. My life is not any different, and it has seen its fair share of the good and the bad times. Like

all people, the good times are cherished and held dear while the bad times are forgotten or kept

as skeletons in the closet.

A particular moment in my life that had special meaning to me was the day I was honored

with an award for my environmental conservation efforts. That event shaped my life to a great

extent. It was back in 2014 when I got a call from my local church which created an

environmental conservation foundation. The church informed me that they had seen what I was

doing for the community, and they wanted to use me to inspire more people to look out for the

community and the greater environment. I Have always been a staunch believer in protecting the

environment, the call-up meant that my work had reached more people, and now I would have a

wider platform to effect better change. The ceremony happened on Sunday; that was the best

time to present the award to me with the whole congregation in attendance.

The event holds special meaning for me not just because I was able to receive the award

but rather because I had a second chance and a better one to work more. The support from the

church meant that the community was now more aware of my work, and they would support it.

The award also motivated me more not only to look out for my community but to make sure that

I was able to reach more people as the voice of nature. The aspect of environmental conservation

is crucial to me as I had a not so exciting experience in seeing all the trees from the rain forest

being cut down and the streams in the village drying up. I was able to witness first-hand the kind

of environment that the people of Dominica, especially in Roseau, have to contend with daily.

That made me realize that we were taking advantage of the great environment that we had, and if

we were not serious, we would end up in the same position as other Caribbean Countries such as

Jamaica, where the both land and marine suffers from outrageous pollution.

The event is one that has been able to change my life for the better, and that has ensured

that I see the bigger picture and realize that it is not always about me. The environment affects

the community as a whole, and all that I do is geared towards making the community a better

place for all to co-exist. The event has also made more people believe in me as it awakened them

to the fact that they can also be champions as long as they have the drive. The town has since

stopped depending on the local authorities to help them in cleaning up and caring for the

environment as they have now taken up more responsibility.

The aspect of me receiving the award from the church is not as important as much as how it

changed my life as well as that of those around me. The event changed my thoughts on

environmental conservation as well as on community as a whole. Various events can change

each's life, and mine happened to be the environmental award.
