For this assignment, you will take the role of a consultant who has been asked to evaluate a local organization?s use of social

 

media and make recommendations on the types of social media that will be most effective for the company. Organizations

 

should be small/medium size businesses, non-profits (like PAWS, CSU Rec Center, Bull Creek Golf course, CORTA

 

Tennis, etc.) or government entities. Complete the items below and upload a copy to the Dropbox on CougarView. Students

 

can work in teams of 2 for the assignment.

 

INSTRUCTIONS: Your assignment should be organized as a professional business report with three sections:

 

1. Introduction: Identify the organization and state the type of business it is in, the target market, and the purpose of

 

the organization?s social media strategy (to build awareness, to raise funds, sell products or services, to provide

 

information to customers, to promote events, etc.). Include a link to the company/organization?s website in your

 

introduction paragraph.

 

2. Analysis: Using the template below, for each of the top five commonly used social media platforms, indicate (1)

 

whether the organization is currently using the platform (or not), and (2) evaluate how effectively they are using it.

 

(For example, does the organization have a Facebook page and is it up to date? Does it provide value to the

 

organization?s customers? Is it effective? Is it needed?). Be sure to include a link to each of the sites and clearly

 

discuss any metrics commonly used to evaluate the platform (e.g., # followers, # Likes, etc.). If the organization

 

uses a platform not listed, include it in the table and evaluate it as well.

 

3. Recommendations: Based on your evaluation, include a 2-3 paragraph summary with your recommendations for

 

the organization?s social media strategy. Indicate whether you feel the company would benefit from using a platform

 

it is not using, or doing so ineffectively, and discuss how. If a certain platform is not recommended, discuss the

 

reason(s) why. Use examples of similar sites, metrics, illustrations, tables, etc. as needed to support your

 

recommendations.
