Fifth Edition, Louis C. Gapenski & George H. Pink (2014). The case involves a capital

 

investment analysis for a proposed ambulatory outpatient surgery center.

 

In addition to the information provided in the case, you will download an associated Microsoft

 

Excel model from the publisher?s website, available at: www.ache.org/books/FinanceCases5 and

 

input the relevant information from the case into the Excel model. Note, you input information in

 

the INPUT DATA section only, do not change any cells in the MODEL_GENERATED

 

OUTPUT section. You use this model to answer the questions in the case. This will involve

 

multiple versions and reiterations of the model not just one to answer all of the case questions.

 

Use the following to guide your analysis:

 

Create your base case analysis. Do the profitability and breakeven measures indicate

 

acceptance or rejection of the center?

 

Perform the following analyses (using the Model) and interpret the output and the

 

implication to your analysis of the center:

 

Complete the Inflation Impact Table (Exhibit 20.2)

 

Perform a Sensitivity Analysis (you could comment on the breakeven levels for the

 

key input variables)

 

Perform a Scenario Analysis

 

Evaluate the risk of the project and incorporate risk into your analysis. Does the risk?

 

adjusted model indicate acceptance or rejection of the centre?

 

Consider non?financial factors that may impact a decision to invest in the center.

 

Make a final recommendation on whether or not the hospital should invest in this

 

ambulatory surgery center and explain your recommendation.

 

 

Write the case up like an executive summary, in no more than 3 pages (single spaced). Provide

 

your base case, risk adjusted, and other analysis in Appendices.

HLST 3250 2015-16 Finance Group Case - Group Member Evaluation

 

You must use this form to assess the contribution (attendance, participation, co-operation,

 

leadership, input, quality of writing work, quality of contribution, etc.) of each group member,

 

including yourself.

 

Group Points:

 

Each group has a fixed number of points to allocate among group members. The total number of

 

points available is the # of group members (including yourself) x 10. Those total points are

 

available to be allocated among all group members in a manner that reflects relative contribution

 

to the project. A score of 10 can be viewed as a fair and equal contribution to the project.

 

Anything above or below 10 is viewed as more or less contribution as the case may be. Two

 

rules:

 

1) Maximum points that can be given to a group member is 20 (that means there are

 

10 less points to allocate among everyone else).

 

2) Any score of more than 15 points or less than 5 points must be accompanied by an

 

explanation (on the back of the form) that justifies such an allocation to that group

 

member (e.g. group member didn?t attend meetings, little contribution, etc.)

 

Individual Group Grade:

 

Individual grades for the group project will be adjusted based on this evaluation. The average

 

points assigned by all members will be calculated and individual grades will be adjusted based on

 

performance (reflected in points assigned) above or below 10. For example, if your peers gave

 

you an average of 15 points, your grade will be adjusted upward by 5%.
